Online Password Manager Offers User More Choice With Third Party Authentication
Passpack today announced the introduction of Third Party Authentication to the leading online password management service. Starting today, users can now log in with their Passpack User ID and Pass, or with the username and password from their favorite OpenID provider or with their Google or Windows Live credentials.
"OpenID is definitely part of the future of Internet privacy and security, but so is choice," says Tara Kelly, co founder and president of Passpack. "Passpack gives users that choice by allowing them to choose whichever OpenID provider they wish, in addition to a number of other options such as Google and Windows Live (Hotmail), starting today, and others in the near future."
Existing Passpack users won't be left behind, they can tell Passpack how they'd like to login. Continues Kelly, "Users can decide to tell Passpack, 'hey, let me in with my OpenID' ... or my Google login, or my Windows Live login. There's no limit to how many of these associations can be made – many, one or none".
The provision of OpenID as a login allows those on the bleeding edge of technology to blend their OpenID accounts with their traditional password based accounts, resulting in a comprehensive security manager for their internet use. For Google addicts who love that one login gives them access to Gmail, Google analytics and all their other Google services, they can now extend that power to the rest of the internet via Passpack's 1 Click Login. Here is the blog post announcing the new feature, with some videos showing how it works.
Passpack's 1 Click Login
This new open access via Third Party Authentication will not diminish the security that Passpack users have come to trust. Regardless of how users choose to login, the login still needs to be combined with each users unique and secret Packing Key. This is the key that keeps their data safe from prying eyes by decrypting their information locally on their computer. The Packing Key, in combination with Passpack's own anti-phishing welcome message prove to thwart some of the controversy over OpenID's lack of native phishing protection.
